BACKGROUND: In the course of seronegative spondyloarthropathies (SpA) manifestations connected with locomotor system (arthritis, spondylitis, enthesitis) and so called “extraarticular symptoms” may occur .
OBJECTIVES: To assess the frequency of extraarticular manifestation in the spondyloarthropatic patients.
METHODS: In the cohort of 100 patients (60men and 40women, at age from18 till 58years; mean 34+/- 9,8), occurrence of extraarticular (ocular, dermatological, gastroenterological) symptoms were analyzed.
RESULTS: Ophtalmological symptoms, like iritis and chronic conjunctivitis were found in 12% of patients. Gastrointestinal problems such as abdominal enteric pain, diarrhoea, diagnosed colitis ulcerosa and celiac disease were noted in 23% of patients. Dermatological changes (acne fulminans, seborrhoic dermatitis, palmar and plantar pustulosis, and psoriasis in patient or in the family) were found in 34% of patients. Totally, extraarticular manifestations in the course of SpA were noticed in 69%pts.
CONCLUSIONS: Seronegative spondyloarthropathy is an interdisciplinary medical problem. Extraarticular symptoms (skin, intestinal and ocular) are very often (69%) and may occur in various combinations with locomotor manifestation.
